  • Stressful afternoon.

The oldest was in his first accident today. Turning left at an intersection on the way home from school. Thought the car coming straight would be turning right. So, totally his fault. Everyone involved was unhurt. The car is in pretty bad shape.  We’ll find out the damage tomorrow. I guess this is why insurance companies charge an arm or a leg for teenage male drivers.

It’s strange, because he’s the ‘responsible one’ of my kids.

I’m so relieved he’s OK. But part of me doesn’t want to be too easy on him either. I’m certainly not punishing him. I’m not yelling, or being accusatory, but I don’t want to hug him and tell him everything will be alright either.

How much of the deductible do I make him pay?

I should probably sleep on these things.

Also, I want to say how incredibly impressed with the Sheriff and trooper involved. They were professional, friendly, and not even close to accusatory of my son. I guess it helps that he was very respectful during the whole incident.

Humbling experience for him, but I’d rather just wrap him in cotton wool.
