Beating the Celestial Tournament
Well.
IT took a while! But I did it!
I tried many many many times two weekends ago. Then I was away last weekend.
Tonight, I came a bit better prepared. Well, my kids are about to go to school; some Australians and a Brit kept me up all night!
I considered myself pretty prepared with about 75 or so 25s.
I was not.
On that first weekend, I left first after all my pets were dead from the 3 initial trainers.
Then I exited and started doing some research.
And I got the trainers down! Then the Celestials! After a few attempts, I left totally dejected with Zao undefeated and all but some critters left alive.
I decided not to get discouraged (early days), and really started delving into posts of successful players. It was clear I was missing a few things:
1, Although I had leveled pets of just about every family quite well, I had not paid attention to whether they had small hits, lots of small hits, giant hits, or if they could really really interrupt something (IE were fast enough). And some skills I just didn’t have enough of:
- block/decoy
- lightning storm and or mangle
- aoe undead damage
- I am sure there are many ways to beat the tournament, but it seemed to me I needed to get some more of this.
- Actually, I haven’t yet got the undead aoe - more below (maybe).
2. But first I thought I better see if I can beat the first 3 trainers while reserving potential Celestial team pets. So that’s what I was doing last weekend. Saving teams with my ‘lesser’ pets that could beat those three trainers.
- I went in with suggestions from forums and my own thoughts and tried pets with one trainer till they worked. Saved the team and abilities and went on to the next one.
- This took many entries to the tournament.
3. Then I leveled two of the pets I knew I would need: (well not knew but well, you’ll see)
- Mr. Bigglesworth. His ice tomb is great for when the opponent flies into the air and all else is useless, and his icebarrier is amazing
- The spectral porcupette I HAD leveled for his block, but he lacks the delayed damage of the ice tomb. He COULD work though.
- And, a handy dandy powerful and fast fly. I chose my P/S Shrine Fly, Flippy
- Yes, I think breeds matter on some of these.
- Also, I considered the Lightning Storm dilemma. I am lucky enough to have a Dragon Kite, which is of the Flying family, and takes less damage from beasts - a good thing. Most people go with the Tranquil mechanical yeti, I think. But some of the wild hatchlings could work too. I also considered mangle as an option. It also deals damage extra per hit (not per turn).
4. And then I took my two week break.
Part two will have my set up that beat the current tournament.
